This qualification is from the General Construction Training Package. This qualification is appropriate for an apprentice tradesperson working in the bricklaying/blocklaying sector.

Apprentices will learn how to read and interpret plans and specifications, apply basic levelling procedures, carry out measurements and calculations, handle and prepare bricklaying/blocklaying materials, and use brick laying and block laying tools and equipment. The qualification also covers the required skills for masonry construction. Apprentices may be working on domestic, commercial and/or public buildings.

Qualification Requirements

27 units of competency are required for award of this qualification:

  • 21 compulsory units and 6 elective units

*Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

Enrolment Condition

Enrolment in this course only for an apprentice with an approved training contract.

Training Prospects requires Photo ID by commencement of course. The following are acceptable sources of evidence: 

  • Current driver’s licence or learner’s permit
  • Current proof of age card (issued by Services SA)
  • Current Australian Passport in conjunction with evidence of residential address
  • Current School Student Card
  • Australian full birth certificate
  • Other (Please contact Training Prospects on (08) 8287 2566 for other acceptable sources of evidence)

Course Fees

This course is funded through the Government of South Australia's WorkReady initiative.

The total course fee is $900 ($300 will be invoiced per year for 3 years). Visit www.skills.sa.gov.au for eligibility criteria.
