This qualification reflects the role of a supervisor in a drilling operation. The tasks performed involve a high level of autonomy and require the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.

Qualification Requirements

Successful completion of eleven (11) units of competency made up of:

  • six (6) mandatory units, and
  • five(5) elective units Mandatory Units

Manage non-routine, complex technical situations


Manage rig operations


Plan and evaluate rig operations


Manage drilling operations


Manage drilling induction and orientation


Manage general drilling equipment maintenance

Specified Electives




Oversee drilling operations


Manage rig move and camp move


Manage and monitor rig-up and rig-up to spud operations


Manage well completion and abandonment


Ensure a safe workplace

Enrolment Condition

Under Skills for All we require Photo ID by commencement of course. The following are acceptable sources of evidence:

  • Current School Student Card
  • Australian full birth certificate
